Cathleen Chamberlain in his article The power in the portal talks about the importance of educational portals and essential components for creating such portals. Education portals save time by bringing all the educational material such as lessons, units and more. These are very helpful to both teachers and students and serve as a common place for information sharing.
The author talks about the seven important things for creating successful educational portals. They are vision, commitment, technical expertise, coordination, feedback, forward motion and instructional focus. The author gives us a short insight into the Oswego site and talks about implementation of various portals such as for curriculum, study zones were done. The process involved with the creation of these portals and the results obtained are discussed.
Finally, educational portals must be customized according to the specific needs of the community. The author rightly states that goals must be set in an incremental fashion; a new goal is set after the current goal is achieved. Focus must be upon the intended users of the system.
