Information Beautification and Data Visualization

The article Information Beautification about data visualization and information beautification. It talks about various aspects of data visualization and how it has been useful for transforming clutters of data into information that can be useful. The author also gives examples of real life situations where data visualization has been very helpful and how the use of data visualization is growing recently.

The human beings produce lots of data. In other words as the author says they are walking data generators. With the advancement in technology of storage devices and the cost of these devices going down, everyone is storing huge amounts of data.  On the whole, the total population on earth amounts to large masses of data which is usually unsorted. The author says with all these clutter growing, the field of information visualization has helped sort , clarify and beautify the clutter. He says the main difference in visualization and information design is interactivity. Information visualization is not just a piece of drawing on a paper, you should be able to filter it and change the way you see it, etc.

The author says that the data visualization is nowadays being used in many ways such as visualization of buildings for constructions, plotting interactive 3D maps, and representing data in convenient formats which are quite helpful for decision making. The tools being used nowadays for visualization are rising from paint brushes to java, flash and 3D softwares which help people to visualize their own data sets.
